Good Mood Monday

December 3, 2012

After a week of illness, it is absolutely time to prepare for the Christmas season and all it entails; shopping, stressing, cooking, and, most importantly, preparing our hearts for the arrival of Jesus! It’s such an exciting time, especially in the city where there are bells on every corner and people truly seem to smile a bit more than usual. Lights, trees, and red is all you see nowadays. I don’t mind, as long as I steer clear of 5th Avenue on the weekends.

1. World AIDS Day. There is nothing like it. The whole world comes together for one day to meditate and discuss the meaning of HIV/AIDS in the time we live. While it is no longer an epidemic of the proportions on the 80s and 90s, it is still an epidemic. There is no cure. But one of the most beautiful events to help with a small portion of funding for AIDS Service Center of New York took place last Thursday evening at the Bryant Park Grille. It was sheer beauty in one room.

2. Christmas Movies. What’s your favorite? Somehow, Miracle on 34th Street create quite the nostalgia for me but I can never turn down Elf or The Grinch!

3. My Creature Comforts. Tea, grilled cheese, and chicken noodle soup…

4. A Little Boy at Home. Frey is smart. He learned to use my phone a few months ago and every time I am home knows exactly what to do to take pictures of himself. 216 to be exact. This is my favorite…

5. Prophecies. Preparing for His arrival. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

6. Acts of Kindness. And 52 new ways! Any more thoughts? You tell me!

7. Block Parties. Our Saviour New York held a Holiday Block Party this weekend that put the whole neighborhood in good spirits. Kids ran free in the lawn, Charlie Brown Christmas played on the big screen, and everyone enjoyed cookies and cider. It was cold but it was so good.

8. Talking. It’s not easy being far away from friends so a short conversation with a good friend you haven’t talked to in a while is always comforting. Thanks Ames!

9. A Changing of Season. Winter is here and along with it, the changing of a restaurant. One of my favorites to be exact. The Vandaag sign was taken down yesterday. It was so sad to watch but so exciting to know that a new restaurant is getting a chance in the East Village. Praying it’s the new “spot”.

10. Home. Through a song…
