Signature Cocktails

October 9, 2013

More than anything, Josh and I drink beer and wine. But there are a few occasions that call for a thrifty summer cocktail or a warm winter liquor. When it comes to those days, I used to lean towards whiskey, personally, because what is better than a little kick to your soda. But, after kicking soda out of my diet, I’ve had to improvise and try new drinks.

I promise it wasn’t as painful as you think. Ever since, Josh and I have been thinking about our favorite flavors and how we can incorporate them into our wedding. I’m loving all things mint, cucumber and ginger. Josh is loving all things shandy. (Our friends even created their own version for him at his surprise birthday party!)

Here are some new (and classic) signature drinks that would be delicious at a hot summer reception (and one that would be great right now, as the weather slowly drops).

At Chicago's Barrelhouse Flat, bartender Jeff Donahue has created a red-wine-based cocktail called the "Refined Hobo." The drink...

…and, for fall, a Refined Hobo (with red wine, cinnamon syrup, absinthe, scotch, maraschino and lemon juice)

Would you try any of these? And brides, what did you drink on your wedding day? I’m nervous I will spill red wine all over me!

If you like whiskey, you MUST try to find Forty Creek! It’s my husband and my favorite! Everyone we introduce to it falls in love! It can be tricky to find but in NYC you shouldn’t have any problems!
