theshellhammer: the cloisters

Last weekend, some friends and I made the long trip up to the very tip, top of Manhattan to visit The Cloisters, part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The gardens and museum are focused on medieval  European architecture and art. Essentially, you feel like you are walking into a small castle right in Manhattan. With the time period being the focus, most of the art was made for kings with a strong christian feel — unicorns and Jesus seemed to be the theme. And every piece moves you.

 

The gardens surround the museum and are situated inside small coves. The museum sit in Fort Tryon Park so it embodies the feeling of being outside the city. If you visit Manhattan and feel overwhelmed, this is the place for you.
