New Life & Baby Showers

July 25, 2013

Aside from Prince George Alexander Louis being born this week (dubbed Prince Al in my book), we have some significant other babies that are growing in bellies around these parts. This may sound odd but I love pregnant women. When my sister was pregnant, she seemed so elegant and beautiful all the time. I understand that comfort levels are questioned and pain comes in waves, but they all handle it so well, with very little complaints.

Even when it is 100+ degrees here in New York, our two pregnant friends barely let a sweat gland work. They carry themselves proud and strong, through the waddling and the pain of the last month.

I also love pregnant women because…

I get to throw parties!

Baby Shower Theme The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Last week, we gathered some of my favorite women in my life to my apartment for a little gathering to shower Lindsay (week 37) with gifts for her new little girl. Since she had already had a “real” shower outside of New York City, we decided to go with a book theme so Baby T could be ready to read at a ripe age.

The theme of the shower was, selfishly, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, since it was one of my favorite books growing up. The book brings out all of the colors of the rainbow. We stuck with red, green and yellow with poofs of purple, blue and orange.

Almost every food our little caterpillar ate was represented in the dishes: apples, pears, strawberries, oranges, watermelon, cheese, sausage, a leaf, ice cream and chocolate cake.

Everyone brought their favorite books for Lindsay and signed notes inside to welcome the little lady into the world.

We played “wordy” games that made us cringe (c-sections) and laugh until we cried. I am blessed to have these ladies! Luckily, we have another shower to all plan together and I can’t wait to meet these little babes!

What other books could you do for a theme? I love the idea…
