Good Mood Monday

June 17, 2013

Summer Skies

It was a beautiful weekend here in New York; one that you dream about during the bone-chilling winter months, and sadly, into the spring. One where you wake up to the sun in your eyes, birds chattering and the smell of fresh air. You relax. And it, obviously, puts you in an awesome, well-rested mood.

1. Good Dads. Father’s Day is not so awesome when you don’t spend it with your dad. My dad is awesome, he knows that. And I miss him immensely every day. So a very happy Father’s Day to every dad who didn’t get to be with all their children yesterday. We missed you.

2. Explosions in the Sky. The city decided to put on some rad fireworks on Saturday night. I was in Long Island City on a rooftop enjoying them with some awesome ladies.

3. Catch Phrase and Girls Nights. Girls nights are the best nights on so many levels. Drinking beer margaritas, having deep conversations that lead to silly talk and always, always Catch Phrase. I am blessed to have such beautiful women in my life.

4. Making Friends in High Places. We sit at the kitchen table at Colonie in Brooklyn. I am hoping that we made as much of an impression on the cooks as they made with us. They are fun, passionate and create the best food. You have every reason in the world to make the trip to Atlantic Avenue to visit our new best friends.

5. Beignet Baskets. Donuts are the new trend. Last weekend, my mom and I stumbled upon this Moroccan gem, Rustic L.E.S.,  in the Lower East Side so I made Josh come try it with me this weekend. Never have I had a better donut. Never.

6. Sunday Naps. And after all the donut consumption, I took a nap. I don’t remember the last time I took an awesome nap like that.

7. Booked Flights. When I woke up from said nap, Josh informed me that our vacation was decided for the year and he was about to buy the tickets. Wonder where we are going? Here’s a hint. (More to come.)

8. Summer Skies. The skies, all weekend, were skies of dreams. (And yes, we went to a baseball game.)

9. A Good Prayer. The beauty of prayer — so focused on our relationship with God that we forget to be eloquent, we stop worrying about what we are saying, stop dreading what we are asking and lose all judgment; we start focusing on who we are saying it to. {Matthew 6:8 — Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.} So, happy Father’s Day to the ultimate one.

10. And a crowd pleasing song for a relaxing week focused on true Explosions in the Sky.
